The mature maples, oaks and sycamores that make a neighborhood worth living in drop a serious amount of leaf every fall, and a lawn left under a wet mat of them through winter comes up in spring with dead patches and snow mould. We blow and rake leaves off the lawn and out of the beds, pull them out of the gutters and off the roof valleys, and haul them — or mulch them into the lawn if you prefer. One visit at the end of the drop or two or three through the season, whichever suits the trees you have.
